Ian Cleary of Level3 Communications and Ryan Donnelly of Verisign are elected to the AMS-IX Board


Members of the AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange) Association have appointed two new members to the Executive Board at the 39th General Meeting today. Ian Cleary, EMEA Director of Core Product Marketing at Level3 Communications, and Ryan Donnelly, Director of Systems & Network Architecture at Verisign, are now part of the team. 

They succeed Christian Kaufmann, Director Network Services at Akamai Technologies and Remco Frijling, owner of Lean Networks. The latter was a board member at AMS-IX for three years, while Christian Kaufmann held this role for six years of which three years as chairman. Arif Polat, Marketing Director at Turk Telekom International, and Alex Bik, Technical Director at BIT, were reelected to the AMS-IX Board.

Besides the appointment of two new board members, Alex de Joode, Senior Regulatory Counsel at Leaseweb, will act as an Expert Advisor to the AMS-IX Board for legal matters. His experience in this field will be very helpful, in particular regarding to AMS-IX USA Inc. matters.

Both new board members are very experienced. Ian Cleary is familiar with the Internet and interconnection playfield since 1998. He held business development and product management positions at, among other organizations, Teliasonera and Global Crossing. Today, Cleary leads the product marketing team at Level3 Communications.

Ryan Donnelly has more than fifteen years of industry experience in highly technical design and operations roles, as well as in management roles that focus on the complex relationship between the technical and political/financial realities of organizations. In serving the NANOG Board of Directors, as well as having helped the NANOG Program Committee, Ryan has related experience and is familiar with industry issues that affect the AMS-IX membership.

Christian Kaufmann is leaving the board after six years of commitment: “I’ve always found it a honor to be part of the AMS-IX Board, and I did my role with much dedication and passion. The members have chosen two valuable successors since both gentlemen have a great interest in technology and are well experienced in the field of Internet and interconnection. I wish them both the best and a lot of fun.”
